Susan is a third year student in the Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior subprogram of the Biology Ph.D. program at the City University of New York. She graduated magna cum laude from Skidmore College (2009) with a B.A. in Biology. She currently works at the Monell Molecular Lab at the American Museum of Natural History. Her dissertation research focuses on the systematics and phylogeography of the bat genus Pteropus (commonly known as flying foxes) in Southeast Asia.
Susan expects to receive her Ph.D. in the spring of 2014. She has completed a one year GK-12 graduate teaching fellowship in which she worked with 10th and 11th graders at STAR Early College School at Erasmus in Brooklyn. She is developing a course, Origins of Biological Identity, to get students involved in thinking about conservation genetics and biological traces in commonly available items.
